Services - What is a rebuild?

While buying presses, one is always confronted with a basic question: Buy new or buy old.

The answer to this question depends greatly on the buyers financial comfort vs. the return on investment employed.

Maktech aims to bridge the divide between affordability of a new press vs. reliability of a used press. Enter REBUILDING.

What is Rebuilding and how is it different from a basic reconditioning?

The basic difference here is that reconditioning in a broad sense is just half the work.

Reconditioning basically involves machining the bolster, bed plates, uprights, crowns, and drivetrain overhauls. These jobs can be carried our piece meal and on-client-site and does not involve completely bring the press back to its original working standards as It came from a new manufacturer.

Rebuilding Process:

  • Inspection/Removal of all parts right down to the bare frame.

  • Crack test and DPT of bare frame and to confirm its structural integrity.

  • All original dimensions to be taken for critical parts.

  • Replacing or remanufacturing of all moving parts and mating surfaces to New Manufacturer tolerances.

  • Scrappage of all bronzes, electrical, hydraulic and lubrication systems and ordering of brand new ones.

  • Reassembly with brand new parts and newly machined moving parts.

  • Trial and Parametric report to meet specs of a new press in every regard.

This process ensures that even an old press is brought back to life as a press from a new manufacturer.

Avoid Premature Press Failure or Wear!

1. Emphasize your Lubrication Systems. Lubrication of all a machine’s moving surfaces is critical. Just like the blood in a human’s veins, a machine cannot survive without it. Proper lubrication should be checked at each point every day.

2. Avoid overloads at all costs. Ensure the machine is not getting pushed to its capacity every day, as a general thumb rule we advise average usage to be capped at 75-80% of the machines capabilities. Overloads are one of the most common causes for component failure and can surely be avoided by proper tool and die loadings.

3. Tap the operator’s knowledge. The operator is a key factor in ensuring machine reliability. He or she should be completely familiar with all operational instructions and safety procedures for each piece of equipment. The operator should understand the importance of lubrication and remain aware of potential problems.
